Enjoy a taste of the world-famous Milford Track with a half-day guided walk. Complete the day with a magnificent cruise on Milford Sound
A guided day walk to Giant Gate Waterfall on the world-famous Milford Track, with the option of a small boat cruise in Milford Sound
Departing from Te Anau, begin with a 2-hour drive along the scenic alpine highway to Milford Sound. Meeting other group members in Milford Sound, we depart from the Milford Sound visitor terminal with a short water taxi ride to Sandfly Point. Here we begin walking (11 km/ 7 mile return) alongside the cascading Arthur River and moody Lake Ada. Hike through ancient temperate rainforest surrounded by an array of ferns, moss, and lichens in vibrant shades of green toward Giant Gate Waterfall. An expansive swing bridge provides a perfect photo opportunity at this point. The small group of up to 12 walkers to 1 Trips & Tramps guide provides an excellent opportunity to learn about the fascinating human and natural heritage of the track. On completion of the walk, the group re-joins the water taxi for the transfer back to Milford. The track is well formed but can be rough underfoot in some places. Upon return to Milford we depart on the 2-hour small boat cruise around Milford Sound. The cruise provides excellent indoor and outdoor viewing opportunities to see the waterfalls, rainforest, mountains, and wildlife of the fiord. Following the cruise, the trip returns to Te Anau.
